His professional racing career began in 2000 with a venture into Star Formula Mazda. For 2000 and 2001 Chad raced for the factory backed Valley Motorsports Star Mazda Team. Narrowly missing the championship in 2001 he was awarded “Rising Star of the Year” and the coveted “Toyota Atlantic Test Award.” During that season he only finished 4 of 12 races outside of the top 3. With 4 Pole Positions, 3 wins, and multiple fast laps Chad’s talent was noticed by multiple championship-winning SR2 Grand-AM team Archangel Motorsports. He was then hired to drive at the 2002 Rolex Daytona 24 hours where he qualified the team car second in class in his first ever professional road race. After driving 13 of the 24 hour race he led his team to a 2nd place finish in class and 6th place overall, within laps of the Rand Racing Lola driven by Ralph Kelleners, Anthony Lazzaro, and Terry Borcheller.
That performance garnered him attention from Knighthawk Racing and Panoz in the ALMS series LMP classes. Chad was then hired to drive the Panoz LMP1 at the Sebring 12 Hours. For the remainder of the 2002 Season he was employed by Knighthawk Racing where he went on to win 2 events against such formidable teams as Dyson Racing and Intersport. Again awarded such accolades as the “Most Impressive Newcomer Award” by the prestigious Daily Sports Car Online Magazine. Knighthawk Racing clinched the LMP675 Team Championship with multiple pole positions and race wins. In 2003 Chad was hired by the well known Dyson Racing team. In pre-season testing Chad matched the laptimes of his world class teammates James Weaver, Andy Wallace, and Butch Leitzinger.
From there he and his teammates managed to win the 2003 Sebring 12 Hour Race in LMP675. Chad also managed to set the second fastest race lap in LMP675 only just behind his teammate James Weaver. Chad contributed to a second straight Class/Team Championship for the second year in a row. For 2004/2005 he was hired as a professional driver development coach for Mazda Motorsports. Chad’s job was to train and develop Talented up and coming drivers for a move into the American Le Mans Series.
After a few years Chad decided to continue to do testing and development and to turn the knowledge gained into a successful automotive performance and development business- which became what is known as CBRD today.
